Diya Kumari Criticises Opposition Over Women’s Bill, Calls It ‘Betrayal of Women’

Date:

JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN — Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Diya Kumari has strongly criticised opposition parties over the failure of the Women’s Reservation Bill in the Lok Sabha, calling it a betrayal of women across the country.

Speaking in Jaipur, Kumari said that women had been eagerly waiting for the moment when they would receive greater representation and rights through the bill, but the opportunity was lost due to opposition actions. She alleged that the opposition has disappointed and “betrayed” women by not allowing the bill to pass.

Kumari stated that such actions would not be forgotten by women voters, and warned that there would be political consequences. She said that women across India are aware of the developments and will respond accordingly in the future.

In a strong remark, she said that opposition leaders should feel ashamed, particularly over what she described as their reaction following the bill’s failure. She claimed that celebrations by some leaders after the bill did not pass were inappropriate and insensitive, given the significance of the legislation.

The Deputy Chief Minister подчеркнул that the bill was a major step toward ensuring women’s participation in decision-making and governance, and its rejection represents a missed opportunity for empowerment.

Her comments come amid ongoing political exchanges between the ruling party and opposition following the failure of the Constitution (131st Amendment) Bill, which sought to provide reservation for women in Parliament and state assemblies.

Leaders from the BJP have consistently accused opposition parties of blocking a historic reform, while opposition leaders have raised concerns over the structure and timing of the bill.

Political analysts note that women’s representation has become a key issue in current political discourse, with both sides using it to mobilise support and shape narratives ahead of elections.

Diya Kumari’s statement reflects the BJP’s position that the bill’s failure has hurt women’s aspirations, while also signalling that the issue is likely to remain a major political theme in upcoming electoral battles.
