Jaipur PHED Introduces QR-Coded Water Bills for Faster Digital Payments

Date:

Jaipur: The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) is set to launch a QR-code-based water billing system across Jaipur from August 10, making water bill payments easier, faster, and more convenient for nearly six lakh consumers.

The initiative aims to promote digital services by allowing consumers to scan a personalized QR code to access their current and previous bills, check outstanding dues, and make online payments without visiting PHED offices.

Following a successful pilot project, PHED will issue personalized QR codes to registered consumers.

Each QR code will:

  • Remain permanently linked to the consumer’s water connection.
  • Appear on all future water bills.
  • Provide instant access to billing information.
  • Enable secure online bill payments.

Consumers can simply scan the code using a smartphone to access their account details anytime.

The new digital system will allow consumers to:

  • View their latest water bill.
  • Access details of up to 10 previous bills.
  • Check pending dues instantly.
  • Make online payments directly.

Since the QR code remains the same, consumers can use it from any previously received bill without waiting for a new one.

PHED officials have identified mobile number registration as the biggest challenge before the statewide rollout.

Out of nearly six lakh water consumers in Jaipur:

  • Around 1.3 lakh have registered their mobile numbers.
  • The remaining consumers must update their contact details to generate personalized QR codes.

Authorities will soon send SMS alerts requesting consumers to complete the registration process.

To obtain the personalized QR code, consumers need to:

  1. Visit the official PHED website.
  2. Enter their consumer connection number.
  3. Provide their registered mobile number.
  4. Generate the permanent QR code linked to their account.

Once generated, the same QR code can be used repeatedly for future bill payments and account access.

PHED has also indicated that the Rajasthan government is planning an amnesty scheme offering substantial waivers on outstanding water bills.

Officials stated that mobile number registration will be mandatory for consumers wishing to avail themselves of the proposed benefits.

This makes early registration important for both digital services and future government schemes.

According to PHED, the new system addresses common issues faced by residents, including:

  • Delayed delivery of physical bills.
  • Missed payment deadlines.
  • Inconvenience of visiting PHED offices.
  • Difficulty tracking previous bills.

The QR-code-based system is expected to simplify the entire payment process while encouraging greater adoption of digital public services.

The new initiative offers several advantages:

  • 📱 Quick and secure digital payments.
  • 📄 Easy access to billing history.
  • ⏱️ Reduced payment delays.
  • 🏢 Fewer visits to PHED offices.
  • 🌐 Improved digital citizen services.
  • 💳 Convenient anytime, anywhere bill payment.
