Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed strong confidence in the electoral prospects of the BJP-led alliance while also outlining immediate measures to support farmers affected by adverse weather conditions.
Speaking in Jaipur, Chouhan asserted that the National Democratic Alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party are on track for a decisive victory in upcoming elections across five states. “The NDA and the Bharatiya Janata Party are poised for historic success… we are poised for resounding success,” he said, projecting optimism about the party’s performance.
Alongside political remarks, the minister addressed concerns related to recent weather disturbances, including hailstorms and unseasonal rains that have impacted agricultural output in several regions. He emphasized that the government has already taken proactive steps to assess and mitigate the damage.
“Yesterday, I instructed the officials to coordinate with the states, to communicate, and if there has been any damage due to hailstorms or rain, state teams will assess the damage,” Chouhan stated, highlighting the importance of swift response mechanisms.
He further added that if required, central teams would also be deployed to conduct detailed assessments and provide additional support. This coordinated approach aims to ensure that affected farmers receive timely assistance.
A key focus of the government’s response is the effective implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. Chouhan stressed that instructions have been issued to ensure that the benefits of the crop insurance scheme are properly distributed to farmers, particularly during times of crisis.
Reassuring the farming community, he said, “In this time of crisis, we stand with the farmers and will lead them through this crisis,” underlining the government’s commitment to safeguarding farmers’ interests.
The remarks come at a time when agriculture remains a central issue in both governance and political discourse, especially with weather-related challenges affecting crop yields.
Chouhan’s statements reflect a dual focus—projecting political confidence while emphasizing immediate relief and long-term support for farmers, reinforcing the government’s outreach to the agricultural community.
