JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN — Renowned Kalbelia dancer and Padma Shri awardee Gulabo has welcomed the Women’s Reservation Bill, describing it as a powerful step toward strengthening the position of women in Indian society and politics.

Speaking in Jaipur, Gulabo expressed her खुशी over the initiative, stating that the Bill will significantly empower women and open new avenues for them, especially in the field of politics where their representation has traditionally been limited. Her remarks reflect the broader sentiment among artists and cultural figures who see the move as a positive shift toward equality.

She credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for consistently supporting women’s development and encouraging their participation in various fields. Recalling her own journey, Gulabo mentioned that she received the prestigious Padma Shri in 2016, which she considers a moment of pride and recognition in her life. She highlighted that such encouragement from leadership plays a vital role in inspiring women to pursue their dreams and contribute to society.

According to Gulabo, the Women’s Reservation Bill is not just a political reform but a transformative initiative that will have far-reaching social impact. She stated that the Bill will make women “doubly empowered,” giving them both the confidence and the opportunity to step forward and take leadership roles. This, she believes, will encourage more women to actively participate in governance and decision-making processes.

The Bill, which proposes 33 percent reservation for women in legislative bodies, has been widely discussed as a landmark step toward bridging the gender gap in politics. Supporters argue that increasing women’s representation will lead to more inclusive policymaking and better address issues affecting half of the population.

Gulabo also emphasized that empowerment through such measures can inspire women not only in politics but across various sectors, including arts, education, and entrepreneurship. She pointed out that when women are given opportunities and recognition, they can achieve remarkable success and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s progress.

Her remarks add to the growing chorus of voices from different sections of society supporting the Bill. Cultural icons like Gulabo bring a unique perspective, highlighting how policy changes can influence aspirations at the grassroots level.

The response to the Women’s Reservation Bill continues to underline its significance as a historic initiative, with supporters believing it will pave the way for a more inclusive and empowered future for women across India.
