JAIPUR, RAJASTHAN — State President of BJP Mahila Morcha Rakhi Rathore has appealed for broader support to the Women’s Reservation Bill, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening women’s role in governance and policymaking.
Speaking in Jaipur, Rathore said that an amended version of the Women’s Reservation Bill was recently introduced in Parliament, and senior leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah made efforts to build consensus among opposition parties to support the legislation.

The Women’s Reservation Bill seeks to provide 33 percent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies, a measure that has been under discussion for several years. Proponents argue that it would correct historical imbalances and create more opportunities for women to participate in governance at higher levels.
Rathore noted that the current push for the bill reflects a broader commitment by the government to empower women politically, socially, and economically. She added that increasing women’s representation in legislative institutions would lead to more inclusive and responsive policymaking.
Her remarks come amid ongoing national debate over the bill, with the ruling alliance advocating its passage as a landmark reform, while opposition parties have raised concerns over its implementation and linkage with delimitation.
Rathore maintained that women’s empowerment should not become a subject of political disagreement, and instead should be viewed as a collective national goal. She urged all parties to support the bill in the interest of strengthening democracy and ensuring equal opportunities.
She also highlighted that greater participation of women in governance can lead to improved focus on key social issues, including education, healthcare, safety, and welfare programmes, which directly impact communities.
